Statement

Viewfinder is a series of photographs made through windows. In the summer of 2023 I kept stopping in front of glass, first in a small wooden church on an island off Newfoundland where nobody has lived since 1937, and later that summer in the upper gallery of the National Pantheon in Lisbon. It took me about a year to see the pattern.

I keep the frame of the window in every picture, along with whatever the light is doing to its edges. The finished series will have eight photographs, and five of them are shown here.
